Data corruption is the unintended modification of a file or the loss of info which usually occurs during reading or writing. The reason may be hardware or software failure, and consequently, a file may become partially or entirely corrupted, so it will no longer function correctly because its bits shall be scrambled or lost. An image file, for instance, will no longer show an authentic image, but a random combination of colors, an archive will be impossible to unpack as its content will be unreadable, etcetera. If such a problem occurs and it's not noticed by the system or by an administrator, the data will become corrupted silently and in case this happens on a drive that is part of a RAID array where the info is synchronized between various different drives, the corrupted file will be copied on all the other drives and the damage will be long term. A large number of widely used file systems either don't offer real-time checks or do not have good ones that can detect a problem before the damage is done, so silent data corruption is a common issue on hosting servers where substantial volumes of info are kept.

No Data Corruption & Data Integrity in Cloud Hosting

We have dealt with the matter of silent data corruption on our cloud hosting servers by using the cutting-edge Z file system, or ZFS. The latter is more advanced than other file systems as it is the only one out there that checks all of the files right away by using a checksum - a digital identifier that is unique for every single file. When you upload content to your account, it will be stored on several SSD drives and constantly synchronized between them for redundancy. ZFS regularly examines the checksum of all files and in case any file is detected as damaged, it is replaced right away with a good copy from some other disk. As this happens in real time, there is no risk that a bad file may remain or may be copied on the rest of the SSDs. ZFS requires lots of physical memory to execute the real-time checks and the benefit of our cloud hosting platform is that we use multiple powerful servers working together. In case you host your sites with us, your data will be undamaged no matter what.

No Data Corruption & Data Integrity in Semi-dedicated Hosting

In case you go for one of our semi-dedicated hosting solutions, you will not have to worry about silent data corruption since we use ZFS - an advanced file system that monitors all of the files in real time. Every time you upload a file to your hosting account, ZFS will assign a unique digital fingerprint to it - the so-called checksum. That file will be synchronized between several SSD drives for redundancy, so if a drive fails, the other ones will take over. ZFS compares the checksum of all of the copies on the different drives and when it detects a damaged copy, it replaces it with a healthy one from another drive. This happens right away, so there will be no threat for any part of your content at any moment. In contrast, all of the other file systems execute checks only after a system failure, but since they don't use anything similar to the checksums that ZFS uses, they can't detect silently corrupted files, so a bad copy could be replicated on the other drives as well and you could lose crucial data. Because this is not the case with ZFS, we are able to warrant the integrity of every single file you upload no matter what.
